Als gevolg daarvan krijgen hun families een conflict, en dat is interessant vanwege hun verschillende achtergronden. De ene familie is rijk, de andere familie heeft status vanwege hun positie in de ambtenarij.

De baas geeft hem onverwacht een bepaald geldbedrag, en de boekhouder bedenkt later dat hij het eigenlijk niet wil, en probeert het terug te geven. De baas begrijpt hem verkeerd, en denkt dat hij meer wil. En zo gaat dat nog even door. Vanuit Westers perspectief vind ik dat het verhaal daardoor wat ongeloofwaardig wordt. Waarom kan de boekhouder niet duidelijk zeggen dat hij het geld niet wil?! Maar misschien wel begrijpelijk vanuit Chinees perspectief.

Het gezin is arm, maar ze besluit haar zoontje een Transformer te geven. Die leent het uit aan een ander kind, en het ding gaat kapot. Haar zoon vergeeft het andere kind, maar vervolgens komt hij in de omgekeerde rol, en het andere kind vergeeft hem niet (maar wil geld). Daardoor verliest de zoon enigszins zijn onschuld.

Hun familie-achtergrond en levensstijl is nogal verschillend, dus dat geeft de nodige problemen.

Heel leuk verhaal over een nog jonge journaliste die eindelijk eens een serieus verhaal wil schrijven. Oorspronkelijk wil ze het hebben over hoe moeilijk het is te scheiden, maar haar baas wil een positievere insteek. Vandaar dat ze het over harmonieuze gezinnen wil hebben, maar ze komt er achter dat gezinnen aan de binnenkant soms wat minder harmonieus zijn dan aan de buitenkant. Al met al veel leuke beschouwingen over relaties.
