Kickstarter.com is een website. Als een klein bedrijf een goed idee heeft, hebben ze geld nodig om het product te maken. Op de website kunnen ze informatie over product en prijs geven. Mensen kunnen op de site het product bestellen. De website garandeert dat klanten alleen hoeven te betalen als het product met succes geproduceerd wordt. Een paar maanden geleden heb ik mijn 1e "robot" besteld. Het apparaat lijkt op een robotstofzuiger. Alleen zuigt het nu geen stof, maar doodt het microben. Het voornaamste doel is het reinigen van matrassen in hotels. Je zet het apparaat op bed. Het zal dan uit zichzelf rond gaan rijden op het matras. Het maakt gebruik van 'edge detection': het kan niet van het bed afvallen, omdat het de randen van de matras herkent.

On the website people can order the product. The website guarantees that customers will only have to pay if the product is successfully produced. Several months ago I ordered my first "robot". That device looks like an automatic vacuum cleaner. This time it doesn't suck dust, but it kills microbes. It's main purpose is to clean mattresses in hotels. You take the device and put it on the bed. The device will automatically drive around on the mattress. It uses 'edge detection': it can't fall of the bed, because it recognizes the edges of the mattress.
